Banks Interviews & Job Offer

As I have said in my last post, I’m going for interviews with UOB and DBS this week. Then suddenly, OCBC called me up for an interview on thursday itself too. So in all, I went for interviews with all three local banks for the same position of those in-branch financial consultant or relationship manager as they called it sometimes.

But after thinking really hard, I have sent a SMS to Sarah indicating my interest for the position of Business Process Consultant @ Harbourfront. But she asked to get some reference checks done. So I passed many of my referees to them for all the checks while I still went for the banks’ interviews. Sometimes it is such the anticipatory wait for any possible offers and still going to interviews that will definitely “kill” any job seeker during the process.

So I went for all three banks, but deep down although the money is there to be made but I still have my reservations with working for banks though. Anyway, I undergo those interviews still.

The final decision came when I received a SMS from Sarah herself, she said, “Look forward to having you with us, Jackie will contact you soon. Let here know when you can start. Ciao” Immediately, I was very happy that finally they wanted to offer me a position. Actually, I was deciding between them and the banks.

But somehow or rather, I verbally accepted the position readily when Kelly from Recruit Express called me before I went for my OCBC interview. So we arranged to sign the necessary papers tomorrow.

Well, I was really happy that after 6 weeks I found my first job. :)

In one part of me, I really wanted to tell this great news to the person that I promised 6 weeks ago immediately. But I held back. I’m not too sure of what could be the reason behind this but I guess it should be the right one as of now.

So right now, I just wait for tomorrow to come and go sign the papers.

Interviews, Interviews and More Interviews

Well since my decision to search for a job, I have been going for interviews and interviews until I’m quite sick of it. But after following Daniel’s advice on focusing, I went for more related interviews which the answers for their interview questions were much more similar in nature. But still, I just hate most of interviewers who will just say, “well, let’s start by you telling more about yourself.”

This question will almost always just turned me off as I will have to repeat myself on my “lifestory” to sell myself that I am valuable to the organization. And I did this for many other interviews.

Well, today I am just grumbling about how interviews is such a necessary chore for anyone who wants to change their jobs. But anyway, there’s one job that catches my attention and that position is called Business Process Consultant at harbourfront.

It fits most of my criteria but just that I will still need to consider because I want to give the local banks a chance to interview me and just see how the banks are really that “good” as many people have said. So I was scheduled to go for interviews for UOB, DBS on both Tuesday and Wednesday next week. Just wondering how it is going to be like.

My IT Roadshow Fair Experience

I must say there is a lot to learn while I was helping out as a promoter in the Harvey Norman IT roadshow at both Funan and Suntec. I was a newbie at start but I picked up the skills needed as a promoter very fast. Even my supervisor did complimented me about these attributes.

While I was at the roadshow, I got to know a few people and basically how Harvey Norman works and even how the prices of laptops and desktops were slashed. One very important thing that I learned from this roadshow is that if you really want to get some computers, nevermind if it is a laptop or a desktop, a roadshow is the best value for money venue you have to be at.

Prices are normally below retail prices and they still throw in freebies for you. Sometimes, you can also ask to change the freebies if you don’t want them. Some of my customers don’t even want all the freebies but just asked for the price to be reduced. Well, that is just one bargaining method that you as a customer can do. Plus, one good thing about Harvey Norman is that they will try their very best to fulfill whatever the customer wants within reasonable limits.

So as for friends, I got to know 4 people working there. It was just a good experience for me to practice my networking skills again. It just seems to me that I haven’t been using it for some time and from this small experience, I must say although my skills is still there but it will definitely need some more improvements.

So all in all, this roadshow experience is really a great experience to me as I got to talk to many people during just 4 days from labour day onwards. I guess I must have talked to at least 100 people a day and managed a reasonable amount of sales considering that I am totally new to this line.

First IT Roadshow

Yesterday, I got a call from Eddie asking me if I want to do a job in selling Acer laptops in roadshow. He called me around 12 plus at night when I was chatting with Jack about some relationship problems I had. It just seems that every time I’m with Jack, something good will happen to either of us. First few times, was that he got some prospects calling him and now I got some job lobang.

Now back to the eddie’s story, I told him that I got an interview on Friday and if his boss is okay with that, then I’m ok with the job itself. After talking to his boss and agreeing on the job, I just realized that I have no idea on what I’m getting into. I have no idea how to even approach a customer who might even know more about PCs and laptops more than me, let alone sell a laptop to them. But I did not let that fear inside of me control my decision making. I decided to give it a go and I might even will get some much better in return.

Later on, I will be going down to Suntec to report for work. I’m still quite excited about what I will be learning though. Jack just told me that it will be a great experience to gain. After many mistakes learned from Jack, I have already learned to trust him much more. So I went ahead for the job.

Well, see ya soon again when I get back from work.

Job Searching The Right Way

Hmm… I just came back from a supper with my friend, Daniel. Well, the day after tomorrow is May Day and it is a public holiday. I was just asking for advice from daniel on how to really find a job in the shortest time possible.

We both went to bukit timah for some roti pratas and almost got away without paying the bills when those waiters came and ask for it when we were about to reach the car. Too bad… I thought they would have forgotten since it was so late already.

Anyway from the conversation that we had, I did learned a lot of tips on how to accurately find the job that will fit your criteria and your needs at the current moment. Daniel just asked me what am I looking for in a job now. Naturally, now I would just say money over everything else because of the situation I am now. So I asked him on how to find a job with a high basic salary of at least S$2,500 and above. He did mentioned to me some industries though such as Banking, Sales with those really big companies, CCs.

By the time we are about done, the shops are also closing too. However, we did went off but I remembered that we still haven’t made any payment and I told daniel about it. He just told me to walk quicker away to the car. But unfortunately, the shop assistant caught up with us, else we would have a free meal :p

But anyway, this is a really enlightening session to me about Job Hunt.

So now, I really sat down and thought about it and focus on the types of jobs that I want.

My First Post – Inspired By My Great Friend Jack

Well, this is my first post on my first personal blog. This is such a unique experience for me. Why I started this blog is also because of my secondary school friend Jack Lan Zijun who really helped me a lot, especially during this period.

So in this post I want to specially thanks Jack for inspiring me, motivating meĀ  and helping me during these difficult periods. And also for lending me your Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T. Harv Eker. Thank you Jack! :)

I will keep in mind all of that you have shared with me and enlightened me to the right direction once again.

Since 6 weeks ago after I came back from Bangkok, a lot have happened, especially my relationship areas. But now that I have finally thought it out. I am ready for a new challenge – job searching.

Well, what can I say about job searching… sometimes it can be said to be difficult to find a job as people said but sometimes it is just really easy to hit on what the company wants. But all in all, I just want to say this. Finding the right job for yourself (well, for me that is!) takes time and what I lack in now is time.

I know that time is against me from reaching my goals but what I want to say now is that I have friends, partners, buddies who are willing to assist me in any way they can to help me achieve my goals. (Hmm… since I’m on the topic of goals, maybe I should create a page on my goals so that all of you can support me)

Well Jack, I’m sure you will be my first buddy to show your support for me. Thanks in advance!

Okay, that’s it for today! I will write some more tomorrow then.
